To set up the type 2 UPC barcode feature for items sold by weight:

  1. In Paladin, from the main menu, select File > Setup.
  2. Select the Company tab.
  3. In the Type 2 UPC pane, check Enable Type-2 UPC.

Note: Your scale must support type 2 UPC barcodes.

  1. Click Save, then click Close.
  2. Determine the part number for each product that will be sold by weight by scanning a barcode for each item. To do this:
    1. In Paladin, on the top ribbon, select the Invoice/Quote module.
    2. Scan an example barcode for an item. A message opens with a number: “Part Number XXX is not found”.
    3. Record the XXX number, then close the message window.

Note: You will use this number in a future step to create the inventory item.

d. Repeat steps 5 b-c for each item that will be sold by weight.

  1. Create the inventory item for each product you scanned in the previous step. To do this:
    1. In Paladin, on the top ribbon, select the Inventory module. On the bottom ribbon of the module, click F2 Add Item.
    2. Enter these values:
      In this box  Enter this
      Part # The item’s scanned number from the previous step.
      Description  A description of the item.
      Cost 0
      Sell Price 0
      SOH 0
      Department Select a department from the Department list
    3. Click F12 Add.
    4. Click F12 Save, then close the inventory item.
    5. Repeat steps 6 a-d for each item.
  2. When you are done, open the Invoice/Quote module and scan each item again to make sure the correct item and price appear.

Formatting

Type 2 barcodes must be formatted as such: 2xxxxxxyyyy#

  • Where “2” must always equal 2, that is, the barcode must start with a “2”. This will not populate the Paladin Invoice/Quote screen when the barcode is scanned.
  • “xxxxxx” represents a six digit all numaric part number. This will populate the Part Number field when scanned into the Paladin Invoice/Quote module.
  • “yyyy” represents a four digit price. This will populate the Price field when scanned into the Paladin Invoice/Quote module.
  • “#” is a check digit. It must be a single character digit. This will not populate the Paladin Invoice/Quote screen when the barcode is scanned.
